Mental Health, Biology and Pain Science

I have started to get into podcasts a while ago – being able to listen to experts from around the world discussing current research, share their projects, present ideas, while getting to and from work, while doing housework or knitting is just perfect.

Currently, I am listening to the Mental Health Foundation, a UK based organisation with lots of practical guides, mindfulness recordings, and UK wide projects. Be sure to check them out!

Another great listen I thoroughly enjoy are the lecture series by Robert Sapolsky, a neuroendocrinologist, professor of biology, neurology and neurological sciences. He is a pleasure to listen to (and read!). If you are interested in why we humans behave the way we do, I highly recommend buying his book Behave, or listen to him on Audible. ‘Why Zebras don’t get ulcers’ was on our required reading list in my Clinical training and since then I am obsessed with trying to keep up with Sapolsky’s output.

A great podcast for fellow movement therapists, physios, movement teachers is Healthy, Wealthy and Smart, which you can find on soundcloud. They feature professionals around health care, and I found it looking for the Pelvic Health podcast with Julia Wiebe. Some episodes are about very specific things like certain tendinopathies… others are about running a successful clinic, and overall it’s a mixed bag with some gems in it.

Lastly. the British Sports Medicine talk medicine podcast is worth a listen – you can learn from UL’s Dr. Kieran O’Sullivan about managing back pain, evidence-based updates on optimal treatments, or Peter O’Sullivan discussing the fear around moving.

Have a listen!
